For years, public awareness of the global impacts of individual consumption behavior has been rising. Surprisingly, however, this positive development has hardly led to any significant improvements in working conditions in the producing countries. Massive human rights violations are still often part of the daily work routine in the production of our everyday goods. Is fair consumption in practice failing because consumers cannot distinguish between fairly and unfairly produced goods? Or do they underestimate the impact of their own consumption choices? Can a fairer world only be achieved collectively, and does society lack the necessary coordination mechanisms in this regard?
