Product details

The principle of responsibility, as developed by Hans Jonas in 1979, is no longer tenable. However, such a principle is indispensable in light of the escalating ecological problems and human-induced disasters. Anna Claas therefore extracts it from its original framework of natural philosophical-metaphysical justification and re-establishes it within the context of a discursive ethics. This claim initially leads the author to the transcendental-pragmatic discourse and co-responsibility ethics of Karl-Otto Apel, which, however, brings its own difficulties due to its idealistic implications. She sees a solution in the discursive and neo-pragmatist minimal ethics of Albrecht Wellmer, into which the principle of responsibility can be convincingly integrated. Through the path of life-world justification, Anna Claas thus develops a suitable concept.
