Product details

The German school system has structures that essentially date back to the time of industrialization: the Taylorist 45-minute schedule (lessons), the sorting of children and adolescents into different tracks for exclusive, intermediate, simple, and lower quality (types of schools), and the strict selection based on deviations from tolerance limits (grades and grade repetitions) still characterize the school system in the knowledge society. While in the past all young people could be integrated into the labor market regardless of their educational path, educational poverty today presents itself as the most central problem for democracy and the welfare state. Modifications are needed regarding teaching, the professional understanding of teachers, organizational design, and process management within the (vocational) school system. Aladin El-Mafaalani addresses these challenges. He presents scientifically grounded and practically tested strategies and methods that enable young people, even after a 10-year unsuccessful school career, to receive a second chance. The author specifically targets teachers, teacher trainees, and education students, as well as school social pedagogical professionals in the field of vocational education. Aladin El-Mafaalani's innovative, constructive, and differentiated contribution is a conceptual beacon in the challenging area of education. Although his concept is aimed at vocational schools, it can be excellently and easily transferred to all schools without major adjustments, as individual support cannot start too early. The author's experiences and productive suggestions deserve broad and intensive reception! Ahmet Toprak, Professor of Educational Science at Dortmund University of Applied Sciences.
