Product details

Human disasters like the Holocaust continue to occupy our thoughts. Contemporary art and literature often serve as a mirror reflecting the prevailing culture of memory. To explore the role that literary works can play in shaping the memory of the Holocaust, Midori Takata examines the documentary play "The Investigation. Oratorio in 11 Cantos" (1965) by Peter Weiss. This play, which deals with the Auschwitz trial (1963-1965), has been repeatedly performed from its premiere to the present day, showcasing through its various productions, critiques, and receptions the focal points and changes in the discourse surrounding the Holocaust in German society since 1965. In particular, those productions in which both perpetrators and victims were portrayed by the same actors highlight their interchange.
