Testosterone is often viewed as the biological basis for stereotypical and toxic male behavior, contributing to aggression, promiscuity, and excessive risk-taking. Estrogen is associated with nurturing qualities in females. However, both men and women possess these hormones along with many others. By re-examining misinterpreted research and referencing recent and upcoming studies, Fine demonstrates that there is little difference in the types of relationships that men and women desire. Historically, it has made evolutionary sense for women, just as for men, to have multiple partners, and they did. Fine also highlights the frequently overlooked influence of culture on the behaviors and desires expressed by both genders.
