Rolf Dieter Brinkmann's late work is characterized by an intermedial oscillation between text and image. Thus, his work from the early 1970s already points to the "iconographic turn" of our time. It simultaneously reveals thematic parallels between the patterns of sex, money, and death, referencing baroque emblem literature. Brinkmann is read here as a critic, a forward-thinking author who is aware of literary traditions.
