The volume brings together essays on the topics of text, textuality, and text types. The first part addresses interdisciplinary aspects of text linguistics, theoretical approaches and categories for determining text types, and how language participants engage with their knowledge of text types. The second part includes contributions on culturality as a dimension of texts and text types, and on the role that cultural knowledge plays in text production and comprehension. The interdisciplinary potentials of text linguistics (cultural studies, literary studies, folklore) are highlighted. The specificity of texts in political discourse is discussed in the third part, primarily focusing on texts and text types from the totalitarian system of the GDR. Finally, the fourth part centers on the practical question, discussed through examples of analysis, of how to approach texts through various types of analysis.
