Product details

The residential area around Lietzensee remains one of Berlin's top addresses to this day, historically favored by artists and intellectuals. The story of the lake, park, houses, and their inhabitants is told, much of which is still little known to many. Among the most interesting chapters are the accounts of former owners and their efforts regarding the property. This includes General Wilhelm von Witzleben (1783-1837), whose house by the lake soon became a popular meeting place for Berlin society. His parties, featuring fish parades followed by fish dinners, were famous. Under the artistic gardener Ferdinand Deppe (likely 1794-1861), the park was transformed into a renowned paradise of roses and dahlias, known far beyond Charlottenburg. The narrative also covers the streets around Lietzensee, the design of the park by Erwin Barth, as well as the schools and the courthouse at Witzlebenplatz.
