The experiences of life, earlier traumas, and identifications with attachment figures shape how one deals with aging. Psychoanalysis offers the opportunity to recognize such often unconscious connections and to confront their negative, sometimes even self-destructive influences. The art of facing aging means avoiding the traps that aging inevitably presents through foresight and anticipatory behavior, finding answers to the unavoidable burdens, and achieving a better quality of life.
