Product details

War in the Karst. The 12 Battles of the Isonzo between May 1915 and October 1917 have left a deep imprint in the memory of the involved nations to this day. The War Museum in Kobarid (Slovenia) attracts well over a hundred thousand visitors each year, with 75% coming from Germany and Austria. For eleven battles, the armies of Italy and Austria-Hungary fiercely faced each other in the Karst, with the number of dead, wounded, and captured reaching the million mark, without either side gaining more than a few inches of ground. It was only in the 12th Battle of the Isonzo that Austria-Hungary, with the help of the German 14th Army, achieved a significant breakthrough at Flitsch and Tolmein, advancing all the way to the Piave. In this battle alone, Italy lost around 400,000 men, primarily due to capture. The presentation outlines the military events in broad strokes.
