"The Body of My Time" is a long poem in five parts, marking a continuous lyrical movement that connects the seasons, specific places, and themes: desire, love, nothingness, and death. And as always with Drawert, the possibility of poetic speech itself. In narratively expansive blocks of verse, in free or structured speech, melancholic, ironic, or sarcastic, vivid and reflective, this body of language becomes a body of time. It captures the upheavals of the present as well as the longing for permanence and presence of the speaking lyrical self. A strong motif is the mourning for a failing, great love, which experiences within itself what is also happening in the world. Fritz J. Raddatz, who knew parts of the poem, wrote: "Kurt Drawert has succeeded in using flawless language, in burning images.".
