After the murder of a fellow countryman, a group of Romanian intellectuals in the USA is confronted by their past. They met under Ceaușescu during clandestine meetings in Bucharest. Then they went into exile in New York: the highly educated Augustin Gora, who was the first to flee Romania; his wife Lu, who joined later with her lover Peter Gaspar; and the scholar Mihnea Palade, who is suddenly found murdered. When Gaspar also receives a death threat, the once like-minded individuals must realize that in exile, everyone fights for themselves. A furious novel in which reality and fantasy, real threats and delusions become indistinguishable.
