The devil does not fight with fair means. In the village of Gibbeah, Sunday begins with an evil omen: During the morning service, a vulture flies through the closed church window and crashes dead onto the pulpit. Just a few minutes later, a stranger dressed in black throws the village preacher to the ground and takes control of the congregation. As the self-proclaimed Apostle York, he preaches vengeance and damnation. However, the old preacher refuses to give up his place without resistance. A relentless battle of faith begins.
