While the peace treaty was able to bring an end to hostilities, the resulting state of Bosnia and Herzegovina continued to face the underlying causes of the conflict long after the war ended, leading to ongoing challenges regarding its functionality and legitimacy. Given that the peace treaty was primarily established under the auspices of Western actors and the UN, which remain some of the most significant forces in Bosnia today, the question arises to what extent the Dayton Agreement can be considered successful.
