The dispossessed
German, Daniel Bensaid, 2012Product details
In 1842, Karl Marx is 24 years old. He is the editor of the Rheinische Zeitung, which defends the legacy of the French Revolution in the Rhineland. In this context, he published a series of articles known as debates on the wood theft law. The topics of these debates include questions about property, press freedom, poverty, and punishment. The Prussian censorship finds these texts too subversive: in April 1843, the Rheinische is shut down, and the young Marx goes into exile in Paris. Daniel Bensaïd picks up on these ideas of the young Marx and updates them in relation to the privatization of public space, the criminalization of resistance, and the globalization of capitalism. Today, it is also about the struggle for poverty-free living conditions for all people. The privileges of the property owners remain.
