Product details

Banescu's poems speak of the most radical nihilism, which does not shy away from macabre humor. They are laconic texts with sharply honed punchlines, rich in gestures, witty, and disturbing. With these works, the author positioned himself within the tradition of Romanian surrealists, but at times one can also hear the cheerfully unfortunate Catull or the cheeky Archilochus, one of the first poets of the Western world. When Banescu took his own life in 2009, Nora Iuga dedicated a moving obituary to him. Oskar Pastiors' translations have been created since 2002. In this selection, the volume appears in a double posthumous manner. Constantin Virgil Banescu was born on May 26, 1982, in Târgoviste, Romania, and took his life there on August 12, 2009. He studied communication and public relations in Bucharest and debuted in 2000 with the poetry collection "Câine.".
