The researchers collaborating with Inârah are attempting to explore the period of Jahiliyyah, as far as it is relevant to the prehistory of the Quranic movement. This includes a focus on the important religions, religious movements, their motives, and literature of that time, as well as late antique literature insofar as it plays a role in the Quran. The languages of that era are examined, primarily but not exclusively the Syro-Arabic, without which many statements, terms, and motifs of the Quran cannot be understood. The cultures and political-social influences of that time are also analyzed. Only with an understanding of this background can the subsequent Quranic movement, which led to the formation of Islam, be comprehended. Based on this foundation, further investigations into the history of Islam are conducted.
