Peter Stamm on Writing

In the summer of 2014, Peter Stamm delivers the Bamberg Poetics Lectures. For the first time, he speaks about storytelling and attempts to answer the question of what he is actually doing. This question leads him back to the paradise of his childhood and youth, back to the beginnings of his writing and to the fundamental questions about life itself, the questions that are so fertile for literature: "The text is (...) often the path," he writes, "that one travels in the futile search for the answer." Stamm provides us with insights into his thinking and writing, as if a poetics lecture is a story waiting to be told. Numerous previously scattered poetic, journalistic, and essayistic texts complement the volume.
