Product details

"From the Paradise of Ladies" is a photo series specifically designed for the book medium, showcasing a 500 square meter retail space, formerly the fashion store of Beate Mohr's family. This seemingly conceptually oriented work conveys a connection to her private memories, reflecting her upbringing in her parents' and grandparents' business premises. After the fashion store was closed, the space was completely dismantled, leaving only the carpet and three mirrored columns that stand at regular intervals throughout the room. The L-shaped room is depicted in the photographs in a transitional state between two uses. This brief moment of a space stripped of its function serves as the basis for the photo series. Viewers are immediately immersed in the book space through the full-page photographs. Like a choreography, they are guided through the room. The sequence of images presents views of the space in a rhythmic arrangement, and as one flips through the 32-page booklet, the visual space reveals disorienting perspectives and spatial shifts due to the mirrored columns and changes in the room: at first glance, the depicted spaces appear to be a montage of numerous photographs. However, upon closer inspection, the juxtaposition of real space and mirrored views of the space becomes apparent. Through the sequence of photographs, repetitions, and slight shifts in perspective, viewers navigate between an apparent closeness and a simultaneously recurring distance.
