Product details

Compared to her 2014 booklet "The Gunsmithing Craft in Ferlach. A History of 500 Years," Renate Jernej's "History of Ferlach Gunsmiths" is presented as a lavish volume. It serves both as a source-rich chronicle of the most important gunsmiths and as a complex reference work that allows individual rifles to be matched with their manufacturers. The starting point is the industrialization that the weapon producers faced at least in the last third of the 19th century: the traditional craftsmanship, with which they had successfully produced for over 300 years, was no longer competitive for mass orders such as equipping armies. Resourceful masters therefore shifted their focus to the production of high-quality hunting weapons, for which Ferlach is still known today: crafted with precision and a high level of artisanal quality.
