This newly presented text edition of the Nag Hammadi Codex II,4 is based on an autopsy of the codex at the Coptic Museum in Old Cairo and also takes into account the results of all previous editions in its critical apparatus. The comprehensive grammatical register serves to facilitate the linguistic analysis of the text, following the established tradition of the Berlin Working Group for Coptic-Gnostic writings. The commentary on the text focuses on its present form. Possible pre-forms and traditions are discussed (particularly with regard to UW NHC II,5), but literary-critical separations are avoided. The introduction provides information about the history of research, including details on location, time, authors, recipients, language, literary form, and historical religious classification. Awarded the Alexander Böhlig Prize in 2007.
