Product details

The German Jewess and Comintern agent Olga Benario was extradited to Nazi Germany in late 1936, after being involved in a failed uprising in Brazil while heavily pregnant. Shortly thereafter, she gave birth to her daughter Anita in Gestapo custody in Berlin, where Anita lived with her in the cell for a year before being placed in the care of her Brazilian grandmother. Olga Benario later became one of the first female prisoners in the Lichtenburg and Ravensbrück concentration camps. In 1942, she was murdered in the Nazi killing facility in Bernburg. Her life partner and the father of her child, the Brazilian officer Luiz Carlos Prestes, spent the years 1936 to 1945 in solitary confinement in Rio de Janeiro. He was the leader of the uprising against the Vargas government and had been known as the "Knight of Hope" since the mid-1920s. The correspondence between the two prisoners was maintained under the greatest difficulties.
