Product details
With the transition from the 4th to the 3rd millennium BC, Egypt emerged as a high culture for the first time. In this transitional period, known as the "formative phase," lie the roots of a culture that would become influential for many cultural circles in North Africa, Asia, and Europe. A significant factor in this was the writing of the ancient Egyptians, the hieroglyphs. This book addresses the initial appearance of hieroglyphs and focuses on the small labels that were attached to everyday goods. These labels were provided to the deceased as offerings for their journey into the afterlife. The labels feature early forms of hieroglyphs and initial attempts to document complex historical events in written form. This study examines the representations on labels from non-royal burials in the regions of Saqqara and He.
