Product details

The starting point of Walter Scheiffele's thorough investigation is the book "The Space as Membrane," published in 1926. In it, Siegfried Ebeling developed his theory of biological architecture. Although it was read attentively by many Bauhaus architects, Ebeling's work quickly fell into obscurity. Walter Scheiffele's extensive essay now attests to the genesis of an idea that remains relevant today. With Ebeling, a connection can be reestablished to the utopian architecture that seemingly was lost at the Bauhaus in Dessau. Through his work, the fantastic designs of the Glass Chain can be linked to the metal house plans of Hugo Junkers, the membrane architectures of Frei Otto and Werner Sobek, and the climate engineering of Matthias Schuler in the present. Ebeling remained true to his utopian projects in the post-war period.
