The previous Europe-centric order of international law is now collapsing. With it, the old nomos of the earth is sinking. It emerged from the fairy-tale, unexpected discovery of a new world, from an unrepeatable historical event. A modern repetition could only be imagined in fantastic parallels, such as people discovering a new, completely unknown celestial body on their way to the moon, which they could freely exploit and use to alleviate their earthly disputes. The question of a new nomos of the earth cannot be answered with such fantasies. Nor will it be resolved through further scientific inventions. Human thought must once again focus on the fundamental orders of their terrestrial existence. We seek the meaningful realm of the earth. This is the venture of this book and the mandate of our endeavor.
