Friedrich Böttcher (1842 - 1922) studied theology, philosophy, history, and political science. He was a journalist, politician, and author. The present work "The Oldest Stage Poems" was first published in 1850. In this work, Böttcher translated the two lyrical compositions "The Song of Deborah" and "The Song of Songs" from Hebrew. Additionally, he wrote analytical introductions to both compositions for better understanding by the readers.
