Abstract: In teaching and research, there is occasionally a request for a derivation of the velocity contributions induced by fluid mechanical vortex spirals in the flow field. This will be addressed in this paper. In this context, the law of Biot and Savart, which originates from field theory and is common in electrodynamics, comes into play. If the velocity field is known, the vorticity field can be calculated from it. The differentiation of the velocity field (formation of the curl) is the vorticity field. Similarly, the velocity field can be calculated from the vorticity field.
