Product details
All of our thinking, our organization of knowledge, our media, and our daily conversation, which includes facial expressions and gestures, are infused with language imagery. This realization makes a multimodal analysis of metaphors inevitable. Although Freud already recognized the connection between body and psyche, described non-verbal language in psychoanalytic conversation with detective precision, and thus uncovered and created numerous metaphors, these complex linguistic figures in therapeutic dialogue have hardly been explored. The contributors shed light on the everyday power of metaphor and explain how problems are often expressed only with the help of linguistic images, how they organize conscious and unconscious experience, and how their understanding can help to understand cultural differences and mediate between different cultures.
