What role does the abject play in contemporary art, and how can the corresponding social position of the artist be explained? Through the play with transgressions in the depiction of the forbidden and the repulsive, the abject became a productive force in the avant-garde on a social level - as a means of societal protest and social critique. In contrast, hyper-modern society allows for the abject to become functional and productive from a different perspective within the framework of production - it is part of the logic of the capitalist system. The abject as a means of expression turns into a consumer product. The contemporary artist presents themselves as a product of this society as a glamour artist: individualistic, headstrong, hedonistic, and hyper-aware. Through the work with the abject in art, a significant transformation can be observed.
