Aphorisms are part of everyday life for many people. For birthdays, gifts are often accompanied by a card featuring a more or less clever, cheerful, or provocative saying. In doctoral theses, aphorisms are frequently included, striving to convey something appropriate in brief form before each chapter. In short, we encounter aphorisms in various contexts. We use them for our own edification or to bring joy to others. A collection of 90 aphorisms serves as the foundation for the sayings counseling presented here. This method is suitable for both chronic issues in one’s biography and the small difficulties of daily life. It works in self-counseling as well as in a traditional counseling setting. Sayings counseling confronts individuals with a statement related to a question, urging them to take the randomly drawn statement very seriously.
