Hendrik Groen began his diaries on the literary website of Torpedo Magazine. His first diary, the secret diary of Hendrik Groen, 83 ¼ years old, has been translated into over thirty languages, and On the Sunny Side immediately reached number one in his home country, the Netherlands.

Hester Velmans is the author of two popular children's novels and a translator specializing in contemporary fiction. Her translation of Renate Dorrestein's A Heart of Stone won the Vondel Prize for Translation and was selected as a choice for Barnes & Noble Discover Great New Writers. Her translation of Lulu Wang's The Lilientheater was named a notable book of the year by the New York Times. Her children's book Isabel the Whales now has a sibling: the second volume of the Whales series, Jessaloup's Song (for ages 10 and up).
