On August 27, 1936, Stefan Zweig delivers his lecture at the music school in Rio de Janeiro, titled "L'unité spirituelle de l'Europe," which is eventually renamed "Zur geistigen Einheit der Welt." This lecture marks the culminating highlight of his first trip to Brazil. The audience honors Zweig with standing ovations and requests autographs. His speech conveys two central messages: Peoples of the world, if you do not understand each other, you jeopardize everything that humanity has achieved in culture over the past 1000 years. And: The hope for world peace lies in the young nations of South America. Zweig foresees the impending Second World War, the Spanish Civil War has already broken out, and his books have been burned in Germany. He gifts the original German manuscript of his lecture to the Brazilian Foreign Minister.
