With "The Time Machine," H.G. Wells created a new literary genre and, alongside Jules Verne, earned the title "Father of Science Fiction." The time traveler, who is not named in the novel, travels with a self-built machine to the year 802701 at the end of the 19th century. What he finds there is not only a vision of the future but also reflects the author's view of British society at the close of the 19th century.
