Just in time for the 60th anniversary of the Austrian State Treaty of 1955, the film is being presented to a wide audience in a previously unknown form: people who have barely spoken to each other are now collaboratively reconstructing their history. Initially side by side, but for the same film. Using the method of participatory re-enactment, director Birgit-Sabine Sommer combines the narratives of eyewitnesses with cinematic retellings at original locations using original props, portrayed by the descendants of the protagonists. The film, along with the accompanying book and DVD, is a worthy continuation of the place name solution, as this approach restores respect and dignity to the individuals involved and provides them with the opportunity to engage in a process of mediation to cope with the trauma of the century.
