Two decades before the outbreak of the French Revolution, the physician and Enlightenment thinker Struensee arrives at the court of Danish King Christian VII in Altona. A small, sickly child king, he is married to the thirteen-year-old English Princess Caroline Mathilde, who cried as she traveled to Denmark. "The queen is lonely. Take care of her!" commands the king to his personal physician. And the three become figures in an unstoppable and moving tragedy.
