Product details

The Neijing is one of the most important classical works of Taoism and the highest authority in traditional Chinese medicine. Its authorship is attributed to the great Huang Di, the Yellow Emperor, who reigned in the third millennium BC. This new translation includes the eighty-one chapters of the Neijing, known as Suwen, or Questions on the organic and fundamental nature. The other section, the Lingshu, is a technical book on acupuncture and is not included here. In the form of a discourse between Huang Di and his ministers, this classic work of the Yellow Emperor's medicine offers a wealth of knowledge, including etiology, physiology, diagnostics, therapy, and disease prevention, as well as an in-depth exploration of diverse topics such as ethics, psychology, and cosmology. All these subjects are discussed in a holistic context, suggesting that life is not fragmented as portrayed by the modern scientific model, but that all parts form an interconnected whole. By revealing the natural laws of this holistic universe, the book provides practical advice on how to promote a long, happy, and healthy life. The original text of the Neijing presents broad concepts and is often brief in details. The explanations and interpretations of the translator, integrated into the translation, not only help clarify the meaning of the text but also make it a very readable narrative for students as well as for anyone interested in the underlying principles of Chinese medicine.
