Product details
What images have been and are being represented in zoos and amusement parks? Jan-Erik Steinkrüger's study shows that the thematic worlds, particularly shaped by Carl Hagenbeck and Walt Disney, reproduce images of other worlds. The study focuses on the transformation of representation practices as an example of themed spaces. In addition to the form of representation, the content of the representations also comes under analysis - a combination that allows for new insights into the phenomenon of thematization. At the same time, the book contributes to the understanding of tourism - as thematic worlds are the version of the tourist gaze free from all disturbances.
