Guide to Journalism: "Sit in a café, read the newspaper, and observe the people!" This is the task given to many interns and trainees in the editorial office when they need to find a topic. However, they rarely return with a good story. There are numerous strategies to discover an interesting idea for an article, report, or portrait. The author presents various approaches and illustrates them with examples from her own practice. She also offers numerous tips for finding topics at the desk and explains what actually constitutes a good topic. The fundamental idea of the book is not to search for finished stories. Instead, young journalists learn to identify starting points for research from which subjects of different genres for various media and target audiences can be developed.
