The main part of the book consists of various philosophical interpretations of evil, including those of Augustine, Thomas Aquinas, Hobbes, Leibniz, Rousseau, Kant, Schelling, Nietzsche, and Hannah Arendt, as well as more recent authors like Susan Neiman and Bettina Stangneth. In conclusion, the volume attempts to integrate the different dimensions of evil and, based on that, to develop a concept of evil that distinguishes itself from neuroscientific reductions while still claiming a diagnostic significance in secular societies.
