What does the book aim to convey? One in five children starts speaking very late, does not respond appropriately to language, or learns it only slowly, retaining mistakes that their peers have long outgrown. As they grow older, these children may continue to lag behind their age group. To counteract such negative development, early speech therapy intervention is necessary, which, according to recent findings, can already be implemented for children who are not yet or hardly speaking. The caregivers, who play a significant role in their children's language development at this stage, should be involved and trained to foster their children's pre-linguistic skills.
