Here, Preussler now tells his adult readers about his childhood in Bohemia, his grandmother Dora, his literary role models, the joy of having survived war and captivity, his journey as a writer, the creation of his most important works, the special responsibility of writing for children – and in the end, he reflects on aging and old age. This book is not a biography, yet it contains much autobiographical content, as the characters in Preussler's books are closely tied to the person who wrote them.
