Brotherhood and memory played a central role in Benedictine monasticism during the Middle Ages. Starting from the network of relationships of the Hirsau monastery, this previously overlooked phenomenon is examined in its development from the 12th to the 15th century, revealing the connections between reform, the formation of associations, the founding of orders, and inter-monastic brotherhood.
