1278, 1306, and 1310 - these three years mark the death of Přemysl Otakar II. at Marchfeld, the murder of Wenceslaus III. in Olomouc, and the elevation of John of Luxembourg to the throne of Bohemia. These events were pivotal for the fate of Bohemia at the beginning of the 14th century and were extensively described by Peter of Zittau, the abbot of Königsaal and author of the chronicle of the same name. The present publication focuses on the work known in historiography as the Königsaaler Chronik and its author, analyzing the portrayal of rulers, nobles, clergy, and citizens contained within it. Particularly, Peter of Zittau's moral teachings—often written in verse—addressed to the ruler, along with his sources, networks, and observations, testify to an exceptionally educated chronicler.
