Saint-Denis between nobility and king
German, Rolf Groe, 2002More than 10 pieces in stock at third-party supplier
Product details
The work shows that Saint-Denis had come under the dependence of the regional nobility during the 11th century. Philip I was able to reclaim the abbey for the monarchy. Under his successor Louis VI, there was a close collaboration between the ruler and the monastery, which was granted precedence over all the churches of the realm. The prominent position that Saint-Denis held within the Capetian monarchy was not the achievement of Suger, but of his predecessors.
