Product details

The idea that a violent confrontation between man and man could lead to victory for the law or even justice is, by today's standards, inconceivable. In contrast, during the Middle Ages, the so-called duel was able to assert its place in the law for centuries and also established itself as a narrative subject. However, this longevity does not indicate the immutability of a norm; rather, it demonstrates the cultural influence of judicial combat, the facets of which are primarily reconstructed in this study through the analysis of narrative textual evidence.
