The study focuses on the tension-filled relationships characterized by cooperation and confrontation between the cities of Württemberg, their elites previously referred to as "Ehrbarkeit," and the territorial lords during the period from 1250 to 1534, a time of territorial expansion and numerous political conflicts. It was awarded the Research Prize of the Foundation for Personal History in 2016 and the Research Prize of the Association of German Historical and Antiquarian Societies in 2016.
