The author and Buddhologist, painter, and mystic Lama Anagarika Govinda (1898-1985) was born in Saxony and originally bore the name Ernst Lothar Hoffmann. From his early youth until his death, the author, who became famous with the classic Tibetan book "The Way of the White Clouds," created an immense body of work. His literary contributions include philosophical treatises, poetry, screenplays, travelogues, as well as texts on literature, art history, and architecture. His artistic oeuvre features paintings and drawings that reflect his life in Italy, Africa, India, and Tibet, as well as graphics and choreographies. The Dalai Lama honored Govinda's contributions to Tibetan culture, and Ayang Rinpoche referred to him as "a golden bridge between East and West."
