The Habsburgs are the high medieval founders of the Muri Monastery in today's Canton of Aargau and have remained connected to it to this day. The relationship between the monastery and the noble family has not always been equally intense. However, time and again, it was possible to revive this connection through a deliberate remembrance of their shared origins. The book narrates the times and ways in which memories were utilized to activate the bond and shape the common history. In the 11th century, the Habsburgs founded the Benedictine monastery of Muri in the Freiamt. Chronicle reports, documents, burial sites, monuments, and the prayer commemorations still maintained today in the Muri-Gries and Hermetschwil monasteries testify to nearly a thousand years of connection. This is based on the current relationships between the monastic community and the Habsburg family.
