To perpetual peace
German, Immanuel Kant, 2016Product details
Immanuel Kant: Toward Permanent Peace. A Philosophical Sketch. In this late work, Kant further develops his idea of the "categorical imperative" into a political model for relations between the states of the world. Decisions guided by reason, striving for justice, can establish the peace that, for Kant, is explicitly not a natural state but the result of responsible politics. The text played a crucial role in shaping the so-called "Atlantic Charter," which Franklin D. Roosevelt and Winston S. Churchill drafted in August 1941, and on which the United Nations was founded. First published: Königsberg (Friedrich Nicolovius) 1795. The text follows the new, expanded edition, Königsberg (Friedrich Nicolovius) 1796. Complete new edition with a biography of the author. Edited by Karl-Maria Guth.
