Commissioner Simon Rosner has retreated to a rehabilitation clinic to treat his alcohol addiction. However, his stay is abruptly interrupted when an old school friend asks for his help. His thirteen-year-old daughter has gone missing, and the child's mother is acting strangely indifferent. Piece by piece, Rosner gains insight into a family catastrophe and becomes entangled in a vortex of blackmail and murder.
